Bloody 1's for movement. It felt like a slow car crash you could see everything happening and could do nothing about it as the army refused to move. Although I would say a reward to the Picts for being very aggressive and taking it to the Norse Irish. If they had sat back then the low Pips would not have matter as much as I could have taken my time.

There were 2 DBA battles this week: The first saw the Normans(Simon) invaded by the Khazars(John). The battle started poorly for the Normans with open volley of fire from the Khazar War Wagon destroying a unit of Norman Knight! However, undismayed the Norman Knights crashed home slaughtered 2 Hordes of Khazar peasantry in truly knightly fashion! Then followed confusion for the Normans as they failed to get their Orders through & with their line broken up the swift Khazar Cavalry & Light Horse mopped them up piece by piece... Victory Khazars!
The second Battle saw the Normans (Simon) invaded again, but this time by the Turks!(Garry)This battle was to be fought on open grassland with the only real terrain of note being a Hill located off-centre of the battlefield - this was to prove of interest as the Normans dismounted several of their Knights to fight on foot as Blade infantry & they deployed on this Hill. The Normans charged their Knights forwards & advanced their Blade towards the Turkish Artillery & Foot; however he Turks threw out some Psiloi to Pin them & split the force - this delay meant the Turkish Light Horse were able to outflank the slower Norman Knights & start picking them off as vital Orders were redirected to the now disorganised foot troops. This lead to the demise of the Norman force & Victory to The Ottoman Turks!

Historical newsletter. February is going to be DBA month. We are going to have the finals either the last Wednesday in Feb or first Wednesday in March depending on how things are going. So get those games in. I will email to people who they still have to play so they can organise games. This week was one battle in the Historical league. It was a battle of Free Companies as Simon and Chris both fought with them. Both sides set up with the Knights in the middle and infantry on the sides. Simon sent his Light Horse around his right flank, but it got caught and destroyed by Chris’s cavalry. The Knights then clashed in the middle, while this was going on Chris’s bowmen on the left flank shot down Simon’s knight that was on the end of the line. In the clash of Knights, Chris’s knights cut down Simon’s cavalry and a knight unit with out receiving any casualties. Victory to Chris’s Free Company. Historical League Newsletter. There was one league battle this week. The Free Companies (Chris) invaded France (Medieval French, Aaron). In true medieval style the knights of both sides lined up against each other. The French had spearmen on the right and crossbowmen on the left of the knights. The Free Company had crossbowmen on the right and longbowmen and loose blade on the left with mounted longbowmen after that. Both lines then advanced with the mounted longbowmen going out wide to attack the French camp. They would spend the rest of the battle trying and failing to take the camp.
With the main battle the crossbowmen traded shots and the longbowmen tried to break up the spearmen. When the spearmen got too close the blade charged to try and stop them. One spearmen unit would be held up for the rest of the battle but the rest of the spear would get in amongst the longbowmen and slaughter them. Meanwhile the knights charged each other and spent the rest of the battle pushing each other around. The French knight on the extreme left pushed the Free Company knight back so far that the Free Company crossbowmen could charge the knights in the flank. The knights held out and the French crossbowmen charged in and scattered the Free Company crossbowmen. On the other end of the knights line the battle was decided when the French spearmen turned around from slaughtering the longbowmen and hit the Free Company knights in the flank. After the second attempt the Free Company knights faulted and the army collapsed. Victory to the French.

Historical Newsletter.
Remember two more Wednesday's before the finals.
We had a few battles this week for the Historical league. First up the Philistines (Aaron) invaded New Kingdom Egypt (John). The Egyptians set up with the Chariots split on each wing and the infantry in the centre, with the Archers on the right and blade on the left. The Philistines set up with the Chariots on the left, then the blade with the Psiloi and Auxilia on the right. Both sides advanced with the Egyptian chariots moving further to the left drawing the Philistines Auxilia out after them. With the Auxilia away from the main line, the Chariots (supported by Psiloi) hit them and ran right over them clearing the Philistine right flank. In the middle, after facing some bow fire, the Philistines charge in. The result is mixed as the Philistine blade carved a hole in the Egyptian archers, but the Egyptian blade create a hole in the Philistine line. With the Egyptian line holding, the Egyptian chariots from the left, fresh from their victory over the Auxilia, sweep in to the side of the main line overrunning the psiloi screen. With this the Philistines retire with victory to the Egyptians. Second was the Picts (Kev) taking on the Free Company (Chris). With the Pictish pike about the Free Company general chose to dismount. On the Pictish left the pike would push up and surround some of the Free Company Archers and picked them off. The battle would end when the Free Company knights charge a small pike block sitting in the middle of the field and falling down. Victory to the unstoppable Picts. The final battle was between the invading Ottomans (Garry) and the Normans (Simon). The Normans lined up with the knights in the centre, Light Horse on the right and the Archers on the left. The Ottomans had a small skirmish screen in front of their camp on the right. They had their Artillery and Archers on a Gentle hill on the left with the Cavalry to the right and the light horse to the left. The knights advance, while drifting to the left and then split into two groups. The Archers on the left also advance and would over the battle shoot down the Psiloi skirmish line. Meanwhile the Ottoman Light Horse charged into one group of knights killing one. Then the other knights charged into the Ottoman cavalry with casualties on both sides. With the battle in the balance the Ottoman light horse surrounded the Norman General and cut him down. A close victory for the Ottomans.

Historical League Newsletter. We had a big final Wednesday of league battles, including Simon’s quote of ‘I’m going to keep fighting battles until I lose’. We ended up with eight battles being fought including four upsets and a run on fourth place. First the Vikings (Gareth) invaded Ireland and fought the Norse Irish (Garry). The Viking battle set up in a line with the Irish set up opposite. On the right of the Vikings was a steep hill which they had their warband. The Irish started off by assaulting this with auxillia, killing the warband. The Vikings threw in a couple of blade to contest the hill while the main line advanced. With the fighting going well on the hill, the Irish battleline charge into the Vikings with disastrous results as the Viking shield wall takes the charge and then proceeds to cut down the Irish Warriors. With large causalities taken the Irish break and run. Victory to the Vikings. Next, another Vikings warband (Garry) invades the Picts (Kev). This battle also ends in victory for the Vikings as the Pictish pike push to far into the Viking battleline leaving their flanks exposed for the Vikings to swing in to the sides. For the third Viking battle, the victorious Vikings (Gareth) push further into Ireland facing the Norse Irish under a new commander (Aaron). The Irish have most of their fast Auxillia on a hill on the left and the rest in a landing on the right. The solid Auxillia are in a wood on the right with the Ostmen on the left and the cavalry on the right (next to the sea). The Vikings are split into four groups, one lined up against the hill, one against the Ostmen and wood, one as a reserve and on as a landing party that lands next to their own line. The Irish set up a line with the cavalry moving behind the woods to the left, the Vikings then charge in against the ostmen, protected by a warband in the woods. After much pushing the Ostmen break through with the cavalry, the Viking reserve plugs the gap slaughter the cavalry and some Ostmen. The Auxillia on the hill have to come into the fight and suffer casualties. With both armies on the verge of breaking, the Solid Auxilia in the woods overcomes the warband to bring victory to the Irish. Next up the French ordnance (Aaron) invades Normandy (Simon). The Normans set up in a line with Cavalry on each wing, Light horse on the right and bowmen on the left. The French set up on the left with Cavalry and Light horse on the end of the line and Pike plus artillery on the right. The Normans then charge, the artillery gets off one shot and then the Normans are on the French. The Swiss pike cut through the Knights in front of them and then turn to get the knight general to the left and the Cavalry on the right which had just destroyed the French Artillery. The Norman general is cut down and the army looks shaky. Then the Norman Knights, in one turn ride down the Psiloi skirmish line and cause some casualties to the French Knights, breaking the army. A great upset win to the Normans. This then led to a rematch with the French (Aaron) again invading Normandy (Simon) with the same set up. With the clash, the French Pike and Knights punched through the Norman Lines, slaying nearly half the Knights, while the Norman General scattered the French Knights infront of him. This allowed him to wheel into the side of the French General, who heroically held him off. With Psiloi behind the Norman General, he turned slaughtered the Psiloi and then charged into the French Artillery killing the crew. With both armies looking shaky (again), the Norman Cavalry and Light horse manage to surround the French Cavalry destroying it and sweeping the player in first place as Simon attempts to take fourth position and a place in the finals. While this was going on the Vikings (Gareth) invades the Picts (Kev). This time the Picts protect their flanks going into the Viking shield wall. After initial success in breaking the wall, the Picts suffer the worst luck, not being able to win anything, giving the battle over to the Vikings who end the battle by pushing a pike block into the woods and then destroying it as the Pike had lost its support. Another upset and another Viking victory. With two victories under his belt, the Normans (Simon) invaded the Picts. With Mulitple forests and two ploughed fields, the Picts had lots of terrain. The Normans set up there knights in column in a plough field. The Picts then rolled a 1 meaning the ploughed field’s hindered movement. This allowed the Pictish pike to hit the lead knight and rout it. The Pictish Psiloi then fought the Norman archers for control of the woods. The Archers scattered a psiloi, but were contained so that the one of the Picts Psiloi could pin the Norman Knights. The Knights found it troublesome to move and the Norman General was surrounded by Pike and slaughtered. The Normans tried a counterattack, but they got beaten again and the army broke. Simon’s run for fourth place was over in disaster. The final battle was the Vikings (Gareth) invading Ireland (again) and fighting Scots-Irish (Garry). Both sides lined up with the Vikings trying a naval landing. The blades got isolated and routed by the Hero’s of Ireland. This then but the Vikings on the backfoot and another blade was then picked off in the rough going to complete the victory for the Scots-Irish. With the league over, the Finalists are Aaron, Kev, Garry and John. Next Wednesday we will do the finals with Aaron v John and Kev v Garry. Finalists will have to use the same army in the Semi final and final. I will get everyone’s army before on the day. Final Standings: Aaron: 56 Kev: 50 Garry: 48 John: 34 Chris: 29 Simon: 28 Gareth: 17 Shane: 15 Seamus & Shay: 6 Mark: 3 Anthony: 2

Historical Newsletter This week we had the two semi finals. First battle was between first (Aaron) and fourth (John). The French Ordnance (Aaron) invaded the Khazars (John). The Khazars set up with the Light Horse and Knights mixed up on the right with the spearmen, artillery and hordes on the left. The French set up their Light Horse on the left with the knights then cavalry and knight general with the pike, artillery, horde and Psiloi on the right. The Khazars then advanced, the artillery exchanged fire with the French artillery being destroyed. The Khazars then charged and the French Light horse was swept away. The French tried to rally, but the Khazar knights scattered the French knights in front of them and the Khazar light horse next to them scattered the knights in front them winning the battle for the Khazars.
The Second battle was between second (Kev) and third (Garry). The Ottomans (Garry) invaded the Picts (Kev). The Pictish Pike advanced and clashed with the Ottoman Cavalry with the Cavalry being pushed back while in the middle the two sides psiloi clashed. The Pike was then able to get into the side of the Ottoman General, who fought them off, while the Ottoman psiloi surrounded the Pictish psiloi and routed them. Desperately the Pictish pike charge the Serbian knights and again charged the Ottoman general in the side, while the Pictish Light Horse charged a lone Ottoman Light Horse. If the Picts could kill all those units they could win the battle. The Ottoman General was first to fall, but the Serbs routed the pike and the Ottoman light horse survived. Victory to the Ottomans, but with the General gone, Kev has a large enough lead in the General kills category to win that competition.

Historical Newsletter.
This week was the Historical League final between defending Champion Garry and John (first time in a final). The Ottomans (Garry) invaded the Khazars (John). The Ottomans had their Cavalry in the Middle with the Light Horse on the left flank with some Psiloi and Archers and Psiloi on the right flank with Light Horse. The Khazars had their Cavalry and Light Horse in the middle with the General in a Warwagon and Artillery on the left flank and the Spearmen and Horde on the right flank. The Khazars advanced and the Ottomans tried to send some Light Horse around the warwagon. One Light Horse was scattered when trying to combat the warwagon. One Light Horse did get around behind. The lines then clashed, and with some pushing and shoving the Serbian Knights broke thru with the help of the Light horse behind the lines while the Ottoman Cavalry next to them vanquished the Khazar cavalry. It then turned onto the next Khazar cavalry next to it while the Light Horse charged the rear of the Khazar line, after the blood haze settled over half the Khazar army lay dead or were scattered. Victory to the Ottomans and the Championship to Garry.
Garry is the first to defend his title and this is his third time winning. (The only other winner is Aaron who has won twice) Kev won the most Generals killed John won the camp plunderer title League 1: Winner Aaron, Runner up Garry League 2: Winner Garry, Runner up Aaron League 3: Winner Aaron, Runner up Seamus League 4: Winner Garry, Runner up Kev League 5: Winner Garry, Runner Up John.
