Hello - I have enjoyed playing a sci-fi based wargame called Mechanized Assault and Exploration (M.A.X.)
It was originally issued in the 90s by Interplay, but it was very buggy. It really isn't worth getting.
But the concept was brilliant, and extremely enjoyable to play, so some years later a bunch of devotees produced a freeware version.
It is great to play on a LAN, even if it is just two laptops connected via an ad-hoc network.
Unfortunately the freeware version does not have AI, so the only way to learn it properly is to play head-to-head.
