Year 4, Spring.
The Thebans having been caught in front of Thebes, lined up their hoplites in the centre and prepared to take the Athenians on. After the first Theban hoplites fell, there was an attempt by the Thebans to surrender and to switch over to the Athenians side. But the Macedonian ‘adviser’ reminded the Theban general of the Macedonian garrison that was ‘protecting’ the Theban families in Thebes. Therefore the Thebans redoubled their effort. In what amounted to a blood bath on both sides, the Thebans nearly won through. But victory would go to the Athenians. With defeat in the field, The Macedonian Garrison butchered the hostages and then fled the city before the Athenians made it in. The Athenians then set up a Pro Athenian regime and executed any remaining pro Macedonians. A Trophy was then erected on the battlefield and the dead on both sides were buried.

Rise of Macedon Campaign
Year 4, Summer
After being defeated by the Spartans, the Helots regroup at their capital. Their Phoican general is sacked and they send envoys to Thebes to gain the serve of the great Theban general that defeated the Spartans. With the army not moving Mesolngi finally surrenders to the Phoicans. The Phoicans enter and brutally punish the population, with the pro helot citizen’s executed. Meanwhile the Spartans advance on Elis, but as it is close to winter by the time they get there, the siege is abandoned without result.
The Helots delegation arrives at Thebes to find that the General is in the field with the Theban ally contingent of the Athenian army that has gone to defend Euboea from the Macedonians. The Macedonians deployed in north and the Athenians and Thebans in the south. The sea ran down the east. A steep hill sat in the north quadrant in the Macedonian zone. A forest sat in the west of the Macedonian zone near the battlefield mid point.
Macedon deployed near the forest with its pike central; spear on their left; Companions & cavalry in column attached to pike right hugging the forest edge; psiloi & auxiliary held the hill on far left; light horse in the gap between the psiloi & spear.
Athens deployed with cavalry & light horse on their left; Athenian Hoplites and bow in the centre then the Theban hoplites next. The psiloi were to be used in a naval landing.
The Thebans advanced down the coast with the psiloi landing behind them & following them. The Light Horse swung out wide behind the forest.
The Macedonians responded by advancing their heavy infantry & mounted column forward; taking their light troops from the hill to join the Light Horse as a screen on their left opposite the Thebans.
The Athenians noticed the Macedonian General had left himself too close to their lines & slightly ahead of his pike phalanx; & they charged their cavalry into him with the light horse charging in the side. The Athenian Hoplites then wheeled from their left closing in on the Macedonian pike block & changing the angle of the battle. While the bow scampered round from the centre to their left flank. However Philip destroyed the cavalry & pushed back the Light Horse!
The Macedonian cavalry charged the Athenians Light Horse destroying it with Philip trapping it from the flank. The Athenian’s whole left flank now hung open.
The Athenian bow then forced Philip back into the forest with a volley; while the heavy infantry watched on; the Thebans & psiloi edged closer to the Macedonian light troops.
Then disaster struck as the Macedonian General & companions were scattered by the Athenian bow!
With their general gone the Macedonians struggled to get orders. Their left was edged back as the Thebans pushed on. The pikes held from combat while the cavalry repeatedly engaged the Athenian bow.
With the Macedonian left falling too far behind the pike block to help it, the pike engaged the Athenians Hoplites! After a period of pushing back & forth the Macedonian mercenary Hoplites broke their opponents, leaving the Athenians general's right flank exposed! But some Athenian psiloi ran in from their right to draw the mercenaries away.
With the sun setting the Athenian bow were finally overrun by the Macedonian cavalry; while in the centre their pike continually tried to isolate the rightmost Hoplite to overrun it, but failed yet again; however the Athenian general was surprisingly destroyed by the pike opposing him! Victory to Macedon.
The Macedonians set up a trophy and bury the dead and the city opens up its gates. The Macedonians install a Garrison and execute some of the leading citizens as a warning and extract a large ransom from the rest, which cripples the cities finances.
With the Athenian General dead and the army scattered, the Thebans returned home to find the Athenian garrison had plundered the city and fled. The Citizenry had scattered to the hills and the only people left in the city were the Helot delegation. The Theban General therefore accepts serve to lead the Helot army.
Year 4, Winter.
Over the Winter, The Theban General, using the natural Helot/slave tendency to follow and obey (and a bit of bribery and violence), was able to get himself installed as Tyrant of the Helots.

Rise of Macedon
Year 5, Spring.
The Helot landing goes badly as a storm at the last minute strikes, sinking nearly a third of the fleet. The survivors land to face the Phoicans in battle which goes badly. The Phoicans put the Helots to the sword, routing them and taking the Phoican Camp. The survivors limp back and the Theban General is imprisoned after the debacle. Meanwhile the Athenians advance against the Barbarians, in a bloodbath of a battle with heavy casualties on both sides; the Athenians are victorious and drive the Barbarians away. A trophy is erected to the defence of Greece and Aulis opens its gates. The pro Macedonian faction is hunted down, and those that have not escaped are thrown from the city walls.
Year 5, Summer.
The Helot army now retreats back to its Capital to recover. Meanwhile the Phoicans advance to Delphi where they dedicate to the Priest the plunder from the Helot camp. While there the Spartan army appears. So as not to draw the wrath of Apollo, the Spartans camp until the Phoican religious festival is over. Heralds are exchanged during the festival to organise when the battle will take place and the Spartans are invited to compete in some of the games the Phoicans hold. Meanwhile, the barbarous Macedonians strike back into Aulis, engaging the heroic Athenians in battle.

Year 5, Summer.
At Delphi, after consulting the Oracle, The Spartans and Phocians line up in battle. The Phocians set up with the Hoplites in the middle with most of the Psiloi to there left and the Cavalry to the right with some Psiloi linking the Hoplites and Cavalry. The Spartans set up on their extreme right with the Auxilia and Cavalry to the right. The Phocians, swing their hoplites around and the Cavalry General moves from his right flank to the left to support the Psiloi, while the rest of the Cavalry gallop towards the Spartan camp. The Spartans advance and extend their line aiming to hit the Psiloi. The Spartan Cavalry and Auxilia charge into the Psiloi just as the Phocian General arrives, the Spartans scatter part of psiloi line and push part back. Then the Hoplites clash as the Phoican General clashes with the Spartan Cavalry. The Spartan hoplites punch a hole in the Phocian line and are then able to surround part of the line. The Phocians are now rattled, but the General leads a charge against the Spartan Cavalry, pushing them into the Spartan Auxilia scattering them. Then the Phocian Hoplites on the right of their line ran over the edge of the Spartan hoplite line. Then calm entered the field as a pause occurred. Then the Phocians charged, but the Spartans held them off and the Spartan King and hoplites charged and surrounded a unit of Phocian hoplites butchering those who could not escape. The Phocians turned and fleed. The Spartans erected a trophy and allowed the Phocians to collect their dead. The capture arms were then dedicated to Apollo for the victory and placed in the Temple.
Meanwhile the Barbarian horde descended on Aulis. Meanwhile the Barbarian horde descended on Aulis. The Macedonians met the Athenians on the plains of Northern Attics by the coast. The Macedonians swing back northward to meet the Athenian sea landing behind them. The battlefield had a wood to the east of the mid point with a difficult hill southwest of it leaving a gap where the forces would engage.
The Athenians deployed their Hoplites centrally with their Bow behind. Their Cavalry & Light Horse landing by sea. The Macedonians deployed opposite but slightly withdrawn with Pikes & Hoplite to the west with Psiloi between them & the Knight General & Cavalry on the east. The Athenian horse decided to land far to the rear with their cavalry heading round behind their lines but the light horse heading south along the coast to attack the Barbarian camp. While the camp was left to it's fate the Macedonian Companions & psiloi caught & destroyed the Athenian bow near the woods edge while heavy foot engaged centrally with the Macedonian cavalry swinging round to the western end of the line. As the Macedonian camp held out the eastern most Athenian Hoplites was destroyed by pike & psiloi to the flank; next the Athenian cavalry were destroyed by pike & cavalry in a trap; & finally the Athenian general was trapped & killed by mercenary Hoplites to the front & psiloi pushing on from the east. The Macedonian camp, still standing strong & their general fallen the Athenians flee! Victory to Macedon.
With the Athenian army destroyed Aulis again changed hands. This time the city faced barbarian justice and the men of military age were murdered and the rest of the city reduced to slavery.
Year 5, Winter
With the Winter, the Athenians hand back Argos to the Spartans, but not before they strip it of all its wealth and food in an attempt to rebuild their army.

Year 6, Spring
The Macedonians were now secure in being the most powerful nation in Greece, but because of Sparta controlling Delphi, the Greeks still consider the Macedonians as little more than invading Barbarians. To be seen as equal to and ‘accepted’ by the Greeks, Phillip of Macedon needs to retake Delphi, this way he could dominate the Amphictyonic council and convince it to add Macedonia as a member and therefore seen as being ‘Greek’. Then he can launch is Pan-Hellenic invasion of Persia. After raising his army and commanding the enslaved Greeks to send men, Phillip and his horde march on Delphi.
The Spartan’s are well warned by the Oracle’s visions and send heralds to the Acheans and Athenians to come with what troops they have and to present a united free Greek army to stop the Barbarians. The Greeks form up and are ready to face the Barbarian Horde in defence of Greek Civilisation.

The Spartans lined up in the middle with the Helots to the left and Athenians to the right. On the Macedonian side the Pike set up on the left opposite the Spartans with the Phocian Hoplites and psiloi next and the Cavalry on the far right.
The Greeks advanced while the Athenian Light Horse skirted around a wood to get behind the Macedonian pike block. On the Greek left the Macedonian Cavalry thunders around. Then the Spartans and Macedonians are joined with the Thebans holding back to stop the Cavalry and Phocians. While the Athenian Light Horse hits the pike to the rear. But the tide turns as Philip leds his companions in and cuts down the Spartan King. The Pike then push through the Spartan line destroying it. The Spartans turn and run, interfering with the advancing Athenians.
Then it is the Helots turn as the Phocians are in the front and Macedonian Cavalry to the rear. They valiantly charge forward, but are held and destroyed. Causing the army to break.
With the Athenians having held back, Philip gives them good terms. Added to this is his need for their navy for the coming invasion of Persia. Philip is then elected to the Amphictyonic Council to unite Greece. Meanwhile, in Sparta no terms are accepted and the city waits for Philip to invade.
