“With the WMCQ’s finalizing at the start of June I thought it was time I told ye more about the event that I will be running in Conclave, Thomond Park, Limerick. The event will be run over the 14th, 15th and 16th of June and by sheer coincidence it is the weekend of my 25th birthday!
The Old Bailey bar has kindly offered us a private room for the Friday Night Magic, which will be standard. Free finger food will be supplied to everyone that turns up with drinks afterwards. Info on the bar itself including an address/phone number can be found herehttp://www.limerick.ie/visiting/fooddrink/pubs/thebaileybar/.
Entry into the convention itself will be €15 for the weekend where you will get a coupon for the BBQ in Nancy Blake’s on the Sunday evening.
Our main event will be played over Saturday and Sunday, which will be reminiscent of the old Nationals and similar to the GP style. Since the ending by Wizards of the “Nationals” people have tried to revive it in one sense or another, with limited success. Given that this event will be hosted at a convention we hope that track record can be altered!
Entry into this event will be €20 and consist of Draft and Standard on the Saturday and then Draft and Standard on the Sunday followed by top 8. To save time decks for the second draft will be drafted on the Saturday evening followed by the first round. The prizes of this event promise to be lavish as prizes for the top 8 will be coming from the very limited Modern Masters set.
It is important to note that after the first draft and standard we will be cutting half of the contestants based on standings (similar to a GP), all other participants are free to enjoy other events ongoing in the convention such as on demand standard events, drafts, both Dragon Maze and Modern Masters (which is released the week before) and A Grand Prix Trial. There will also be other magic events such as Commander Melees and “Challenge the Overlord” gauntlets, where team of three can try to takedown our resident Overlord CJ Speirs.
A full timetable of events, including side events, will be posted closer to the time.
On Sunday evening, as mentioned above, we will be hosting a BBQ in Nancy Blakes bar as a finish to the event and as a thank you to all who came. Many of the players who came to the PTQ held here in November will remember this bar. Info on the bar itself including an address/phone number can be found here www.limerick.ie/visiting/fooddrink/pubs/nancyblakes/.
We have arranged deals with a number of hotels and B&Bs (and will update as we gain them) in the area for discounted stays over the weekend and we endeavour to do the same with restaurants and takeaways. We look forward to seeing ye there and who ends up being the true Irish Champion, don’t worry guys I’m not playing so ye might have a chance “ - David Tuite
